Our Grandson, Ryan, was visiting us in the Spring of 2009 and we had a snow storm. His Grandmother just could not resist having him moldel the "Childrens' Extreme Alpaca Socks," just like his Grandfather. You could say that the apple does not fall far from the tree. Our cat Irene even got into the picture. While Ryan and his brother, Adam, were here they wore the socks while they were sledding. These are great socks for children who sled, ski or just are outside in the winter. Also, the socks can be machine washed in cold water with like colors and tumble dry low.

The yarn has been spun into a sports-weight and can be used for a sweater, hat or scarf. Use size 4 to 6 knitting needles, and work about 20 to 24 stitches to 4 inches. The dark fawn yarn is a beautiful color. This yarn is a combination of 2 of our alpacas, WCA Honey Bee and WCA Ohio Buckeye. This yarn has a wonderful feel and does not itch when you put it against your neck. I have not knitted any items with this yarn as yet, but am biting the bit to knit a scarf.

The yarn has been spun into a Sports-weight and can be used for heavier socks to lighter pullovers, hats, and scarves. Use size 4 to 6 knitting needles, and work about 20 to 24 stitches to 4 inches. We have put together two of our true black alpacas for this yarn. The fiber is from WCA Chocolate Moreno and WCA Chicory. When Reno was 2 years old he won a 3rd place at the Ohio Alpacafest for Huacaya Full Fleece Male. In 2003 he placed 2nd as a 3 year old as a Huacaya Full Fleece true black at the Pennsylvania Alpaca Breeders Association Show. In 2005 his fiber won a 5th place in the Fiber to Fashion Show in the Handcrafters Spin Off Competition. His fiber is wonderful to work with and many items have been knitted out of his fiber. His micron count was 23.3 at the age of 6 years. Chicory is a true black female and has never been shown. Her micron count was 26.9 with this clip, but falls within the superfine category.

The winter white yarn comes from WCA Lily of the Valley. The yarn is the combination clips of 2005 (micron count 20.1) and 2006 (micron count 21.1). The yarn has a great loft and is very soft. So far a scarf and sweater have been knitted out of this yarn. Lilly's fiber is classified as Baby Fine. Lily's mother had blue eyes and it is well known in the alpaca community that blue eyed alpacas have excellent fiber. Lily's dam has passed on this wonderful genetic trait to her daughter, who has black eyes.

The Extreme Alpaca Sock is made by the Alpaca Fiber Co-op of North America. The alpaca fiber in the socks comes from alpaca farms in the US. The fiber is graded, processed, and spun into yarn in the US and then sent to a mill in Pennsylvania to be knitted into socks. The socks have a cushy softness that will keep your toes warm during the coldest winter weather or you can also wear the thick terry knit socks as slippers in the house. They are great to wear outside if you are a hiker, hunter or wearing work boots. The beauty of the socks is that they can be machine washed in cold water and tumble dried on low. Check out the picture of my good husband reading Alpacas Magazine and modeling the Extreme Alpaca Socks. The day this picture was taken, it was 5 degrees with 2 feet of snow and his feet were toasty warm.
